RC/ERTL JoyRide ECTO-1

Who you gonna call?---GHOSTBUSTERS!!! Could there be any other lead in line to this review? Introducing the JoyRide Ghostbusters ECTO-1 Cadillac. Huge car with lot's of features to make any Ghostbusters fan happy. Let's take a closer look at this giant!

The car comes with four electronics components that you have to install on the roof, and a little rubber Slimer figure. I would have preferred having the original Ghostbusters figures, but the Slimer is pretty cool in his own right. He did become a main character in the second movie.

Below is a picture of the roof with the extra bits installed. Holes are provided and a diagram is on the box bottom so you get the correct placement. If you are going to re-box your ECTO-1, you can leave the parts installed--it fits fine.

This car is loooooong!! The box states it's a 1:21st scale, presumably scaled down to fit into JoyRide's current packaging. Even at 1:21, it's a full twelve inches long. A true 1:18 would probably add another six inches or so to that, plus a commensurate width adjustment.

Under the hood you'll find a multi-piece and multi-colored engine, complete with plastic spark plug wires. Nice touch

The rear door opens only about half way. In the rear is a complete laboratory with lots of dials, switches and gadgets. All are printed on stickers, but they do add to the realism of this emergency wagon.

The interior is spartan, mostly in black, with a gray colored radio. No real need for fancy chrome doo-dads when you're chasing down ghosts, spirits, and other nasty ectoplasmic beings anyway.

"Important safety tip. Thanks, Egon."

The overall fit and finish of this model is good. I am impressed with the level of detail in a modestly priced collectible. The paint is high gloss, and applied evenly. The plastic chassis has nice details, dual gray exhausts, etc. The car only cost $19.96 at Wal-Mart, so we can't expect Franklin Mint quality here. What you do get is a fun representation of the vehicle used in one of the all-time great classic movies of this era. Venkman would be proud.
