Stores Closing

In the last few months I have been hearing about Kmart closings, Toys R Us closings, and a few others.  The big word on the streets (message boards) is that Wal-Mart is stomping over all their competition and forcing many of these stores out.

What is even sadder is to hear people say they like to see this because “Wal-Mart is cheaper anyways”.

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to have a few options other than Windows?  Most would say no because that is all they have worked with, and it’s the best.  It may be the best, but will you ever know?  Microsoft Corp. has such a monopoly on the software that every computer being put out is Windows installed.  I enjoy Windows, but how will I ever know if something else is better? I won’t, and neither will you, because no business is dumb enough to go up against a monopoly.  They would get crushed.

So back to Wal-Mart and the current news of other store closings.  Yes they are probably the cheapest, and the biggest.  Yes they may be the most convenient. And yes even I stoop to the level of grabbing a few things that I need.

But given time we will not have much of a choice, they will be the only place to go.  Do you actually think once their competition is gone they will maintain those low prices?  Highly doubtful.

Here is a true life story for you.  I used to shop at a local grocery store here in Phoenix.  They had decent prices, great service, close to home, and most all the time the goodies I needed.  Until they were “bought out” by a larger chain, one that offered cheaper prices.  When I say bought out hopefully you are catching on and knowing they were more than likely driven out.  Now it’s been a few years since the store was closed.  Not only do I now have to drive longer, wait in longer lines, but the prices that used to be super low are now surprisingly the same as the small store I once enjoyed.  Do you think that is because they have no competition any longer?  Now you’re starting to catch on.

The all too popular saying I hear from consumers is “Then lower your prices” or “I can get that cheaper over there”.  Sure you can, because most small business does not buy inventory by the millions of dollars worth.  They are on a much smaller level, in return cannot offer these prices.  But I find it so hard to believe because “example” I have a product for $19.99 and the big boy has it for $17.99 you will actually try and save the $2 extra dollars, drive the extra time, wait the extra time, and without the friendly service. J

Keep supporting Big Corporations and you will soon be not only paying that extra $2 but your children and grandchildren can only wonder what it was like to have their own business, or to have other options in shopping other than Microsoft and Wal-Mart.

Did you know 99% of all business is small business, but yet 70% of all “cash flow” is going to big business? (Figures may vary)  Doesn’t that bother you?  If not it should.

Keep the American Dream Alive and Support you Local Small Business.
