Alternatives

Hi all,

I know a lot of us look to online auctions to help us build our collections. There's always something old or new that you need to fill that last hole, or add to favorite track set, or something from overseas that just isn't available here in the States, or in your Country.

And of course, Ebay is the king of the auctions. But there is an alternative. The folks at Toy Car Auction have built a great little auction house dealing mainly with toy cars. They have other toys as well, but toy cars is their main focus. And in the cyberworld of giant corporate auctions, they have managed to stay alive in this hobby.

Perhaps it's the targeted user, the toy buyer. Perhaps it's the incredibly low fee structure:

Auction Feature Cost Description
Listing Fee $0.00 There is never a fee to post auctions.
Image Uploading $0.00 There is never a fee to upload images. This is a great feature for those who do not have webspace to store images.
Closing Fee $0.10 This only applies to successfully closed auctions. If your auction does not successfully close, you do not pay this fee.
Premiere Listing $0.75 This option allows you to post your auction and image on the main page. This option gets the highest ranking on TCA.
Featured Listing $0.25 This option allows you to post your auction to the main page.
Gallery Listing $0.10 This option will place a thumbnail image next to your auction listing. You must upload image to use this feature.
Bold Heading $0.10 This option gives your auction a bold title and makes your auction stand out from the regular text listings.
Special Icon $0.10 This option will place a special icon next to your listing.

Perhaps it's because a number of folks have become disillusioned with the large online auctions. If you're like me, you'll like the smaller nature of the TCA site. If you're a buyer, then you'll really like the fact that some awesome deals can be found there. And if you're a seller, you may find that the majority of your buyers are folks who you see on the various message boards everyday. There's a comfort in that, "knowing" your buyer, knowing the outcome of your sale will be a positive one.

Before you roll your eyes, and look at this as a paid advertisement, rest assured it isn't. Yes, I do know the admins of TCA personally, and yes, they do advertise on my site. I wrote this mainly as a way to inform, as The Shack always has. Just as we all have alternatives in where we buy our new toys, it's nice to know there are also alternatives to buying your old toys as well.
