Recap of the 2nd Annual  Texas Hot Wheels Collectors Picnic

Man, what a day!! Great weather, great people, great food, and lot's f goodies. Let me try to bring ya'll into the fun we had.

Take somewhere near 70 adults and 15 or 20 kids, a chunk of land in west San Antonio, sunshine, a slight breeze, and toy cars. Add all that up and you have a picnic of epic proportions!! I can't go much further without passing on a huge Thanks to Jeff (Conseabass) for the use of his family's ranch for this event. The location couldn't have been better. A few of the pictures below will show you why.

We did it al today---ate good, raced cars, shared stories and fellowship, showed off customs, even some fishing. Who could ask for anything more?? Wonderful job be the South Texas, Space City and Dallas Hot Wheels clubs to pull this all together. Read on in the pictorial below. It was a truly wonderful day!!!

The crowd builds, eagerly awaiting the good eats that were forthcoming

A little trading to get the day kicked off while the grill masters are working their magic

If trading wasn't your thing, there was a pool to cool you heels.

Our Master Chefs hard at work, cooking up burgers, hot dogs, fajitas, venison sausage, beans, and one incredible pot of jambalaya. Could life be any better?

Of course it can!! After all these good eats, you need a little sweet. What better way to get that sugar fix than with a big slab of a Hot Wheels cake? There were three beauties there for the snacking!!!

After we stuffed ourselves on the offerings of the grill crew, most folks took in the sights at the Customs tables. No prizes, and that's a good thing, as it would have been tough to pick a winner. Instead, the folks with the talent got to show off some their wares. And what fine wares they were!!!

Ron (bondoman) is sitting here contemplating his next custom creation. About the yellow Police tape, well, I can't really say why that's there. Perhaps I missed something at the pre-party on Friday night........

Miguel and Patty drove up from Mexico for the event, and showed us all what the Quaker State oil/Hot Wheels promo packs looked like. Two quarts of 20W-50 oil and a Hot Wheels car for @ 2.90 US.

Here's our gracious host Jeff, clowning for the camera. Thanks again, man, for the use of the land!

We had racing, lots of it. Open races, Redline races, Drag Bus races, and the Case race, which was the most fun. It worked like this--two cases were dumped in a big box. Folks drew cars for $1.00 each, and had to race them. No matter what.

Ever see a ZAMAC W-oozie or Roll Patrol Scorchin' Scooter try to race?

We did!! We even saw an Altered State and Super Smooth TH try it. It was very cool!!! Below are some track and race pictures.

Connie appears to be wondering why her case race draws aren't doing too well.

All the kids (and one big one) burning off some of the sugar in the jumping castle.

Custom Adrain's Homies hanging around the race track!

Did I mention there was a lake on the grounds for a little fishing?

The South Texas Diecast Collectors Club members also received their first Club Cars, a slick Fat Fendered 40, designed and fabricated by ROBinator, ceeray, and KB Kustoms

Here's a mess of 40's prior to final packaging today.

And one final surprise for picnic attendees. A custom Boom Box momento, designed and fabricated by ROBinator, ceeray, and Custom Adrian. And yes, there are a few limited variations out there for the lucky folks who drew one!
